Authentic Korean food was the order and went to none other than Dae Jang Geum at Gulshan 2. It was a dinner for six and did not face much problem in booking for the table. The food served was in quick time and the restaurant environment was just about perfect.
We basically order 5 dishes but to our delight we were served 11 in all, the rest being all complimentary.
1. Complimentary Pumkin Soup with sliced tomatoes and soy sauce. Pumpkin soup was a bit on the sweeter side to my liking. Nevertheless, it was creamy and soup thickness was just about perfect. A little bit of salt would've probably made my day. Rating -7/10
2. Complimentary salads - Top left are shredded beef cooked on sweet soy. Nice and soft. Top middle are Fried cauliflowers, middle right Sliced courgette, bottom right spinach, and bottom left are sliced asian cabbage on chilli sauce. These are all nice appetizers which are not too heavy and also helps to keep the appetite going. Rating -7/10
3. Mixed vegetable chops - Served with a chilli sauce, again this a good one to give the taste buds a treat before serving the main meal. The chops were perfectly fried and were quite soft.
4. Mandu - Beef Fried dumplings (10 pcs) and priced at BDT 500. Very soft and the meat inside was cooked well. With the stuffed flavours and the chilli sauce, my tummy was wanting more of it. Rating -8.5/10
5. Salmon Sushi -10pcs and priced at BDT 1000. Everything had so far was very delicious and the salmon sushi was no different. With the soy and a portion of wasabi paste scrumptious. Rating -7.5/10
6. Kimchi Bockeumbab - Priced at BDT 650, this was perhaps the flop among the star studded menu items. On any other restaurants this wouldn't probably be considered a flop. The sticky rice was nice but the after having the seafood fried noodles this just felt little less spicier with the diced vegetables and meat in it. Rating -6.5/10
7. Tangsu Wooyurk - Priced at BDT 1200. This was probably on the unluckier side as I had already tasted the seafood noodles before. The meatballs were perfect with no chewy bits. There was nothing special about the sauce though, with it being more on the sweeter side. Rating -7/10
8. Seafood Fried Noodles - Priced at BDT 800. This was the star of the menu for me. The squids weren't rubbery, the prawn was perfectly spiced and the crab shells were perfectly soft and chewable. The flavours, the spices and the hotness all blended perfectly. Rating -9.5/10
9. Complementary Rice Crackers - After a delicious meal this was again a perfect compliment. Nice crispy sweet crackers. Rating -7/10
10. Complimentary Apple pieces - Along with the rice crackers were served fresh juicy apples. Rating -8/10
11. Complimentary Cinnamon Tea - And finally to round it off, we were served cold cinnamon flavoured tea. To our surprise, the tea was very soothing (even on a cooler weather) and helped in the food digestion. Rating -8.5/10
All in all, Dae Jang Geum is highly recommendable for dinning.
